A lodestar is a star used to navigate or guide sailing ships. I like very much the idea of a fixed, objective point, which can be used as a reliable source of orientation from any subjective viewpoint. I believe that one can easily draw parallels from this concept to religious, philosophical, or mythic beliefs. What is important for us to remember is that our perception, no matter how real it may seem, is merely one, subjective perception. Used in the best sense, our perspectives or beliefs can lead us to more successfully navigate our personal relations with others.
Everyone hears music differently. As a composer I was drawn to electronic music early on because the sound object that we as composers produce is the final product—there is no written score which relies on a musical performer to bring the composition to life. Although an electronic composition may exist unto itself as an objective entity, it can be heard and understood in such completely different ways depending on the listener and his/her mood or frame of mind while engaging in the listening process.
I like to think of the musical compositions on this album, which seem to me to be celestial and spacey in character, as fixed points or stars which one can use to guide or orient one’s self depending on their immediate spiritual location.
